- Smith Assembly was founded by two women of different ages, cultures, and countries who infused their diverse perspectives and lived experiences into everything we do.
- We offer rare expertise in human-centered innovation (honed in both the most advanced and least resourced environments of the world, as well as with renowned global organizations like MIT, Google, Starbucks, frog, and NASA).
- We have a 20-year track-record of designing user experiences, developing technology solutions, and co-creating a wide variety of delightful products and programs.
- Our co-creation approach combines art and science (imagination and creativity plus engineering know-how).
- We provide our clients with the tools and structures they need to be more successful and have more impact in the world by showing them how to integrate accessibility, diversity, inclusion, equity, justice, and sustainability into everything they do (#actionsnotwords).
- We also drive impact — we donate 5% of our revenue every year to community-led nonprofits fostering local innovation and participate in 1% for the Planet.
- Smith Assembly is a Certified B Corporation™ and a Certified WBE (Women Business Enterprise).
- Smith Assembly is an approved continuing education provider — our online inclusion training workshop qualifies as professional development credits/hours with organizations such as American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB), Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC), Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA), Law Society of British Columbia (LSBC), and Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
- Our co-founders belong and have access to a network of 1,000+ brilliant innovators in 30+ countries who have extensive expertise in inclusive and sustainable design and development practices and are passionate about making positive social and environmental impacts in their communities.
- During our volunteer and professional activities, we've collaborated closely with members of a dozen or more indigenous communities around the world including the San peoples of Botswana and the Ikoot, Triqui, and Zapotec peoples of Oaxaca Mexico.
- We co-create bespoke consulting services and the role we play in engagements with each client to best suit their unique team, goals, and needs.
- Smith Assembly’s approach is participatory and co-creative — ideally involving our clients plus their stakeholders, users, and communities — so solutions center all that experience and knowledge.
- Our solutions are inspired by the breadth of what humanity has to offer, from ancient wisdom to the bleeding-edge of innovation.
- We empower and encourage clients to learn as much as they can during our co-creation engagements, teaching them how to fish so to speak, so that they can solve future challenges on their own.
- We incorporate hands-on and/or somatic activities into our engagements to deepen human connection.
- Smith Assembly starts with connection because it fosters inclusion, and inclusion empowers diverse thinking and produces more innovative solutions. Inclusive, equitable, and sustainable businesses are more successful + impactful.
- We offer a sliding scale to ensure that our consulting services and workshops are financially accessible.
- Smith Assembly is an award-winning company selected for Canada’s Startup Visa Program by Spring, praised as one of Canada’s Top 100 Recovery Projects by Future of Good, featured in SOCAP21’s cohort of impact entrepreneurs, and recognized as one to watch in the 2023 Real Leaders Impact Awards.
